Subject: (kw) My Kraftwerk ExperienceTo whom it may concern,
I have just returned home from the Kraftwerk concert which happened last
night in Rio de Janeiro, about 1100 Km from my town.Nonetheless, my KW experience started when I decided to travel to Rio and
ended just before I left that city this morning (just keep reading and
you'll know why).In the past few days, I tried to contact a few of the Konvoy list
subscribers. I would like to thank Stefan from Buzios, Rio de Janeiro for
his company (as well as his wife's). Other subscribers established contact
through e-mail but did not call me before the concert to arrange a meeting
in person. My message to them is: well, if you were there you certainly saw
me - I was the guy with the bright green chemical lightstick hanging on my
neck. During applause between songs I was spinning it over my head. You
must have seen it... now you know who I am!I was lucky enough to get into the chat room last Thursday with permission
to speak (only 10 allowed from outside the uol.com.br domain). From the
several dozens of questions asked, Hutter responded only a handful -
including mine! I asked:- - Are you releasing a new album anytime soon?
to which he answered:
- - The next album will be released before the next millenium.
I know the question was not ingenious, but it was simple and "commercial"
enough to be chosen.As fot last night: it was my first KW concert and I enjoyed it from
beggining to end. There were two noticeable technical problems:1) Radioactivity simply did not start after the scrolling text which was
read by the "robot voice". They quickly reset the equiment and we had to
watch the scrolling text again before the song really started.2) T.E.E. was interrupted by some kind of power failure on the main speaker
system. Kling Klang Studios remained running the song (I heard it coming
softly through an unknown set of speakers) until they paused it. Instead of
booing, the public went wild and applauded - at first, we thought that
sudden stop was part of the show. Hutter put his hand jokingly (?) on his
ear as if he were waiting anxiously for the speakers come to full power
again. I suppose this was not KW's fault. I am not sure tough, because the
interruption happened very close to the transition to Abzug.During the show they avoided staring at the audience. I was always smiling
at them because I was having such a good time. They certainly noticed me,
but were a bit shy and looked away, rarely smiling back.The concert started at 9:42 PM Brazilian daylight savings time (GMT -2 I
guess) and ended at about 11:25. Stefan, his wife and I did not even watch
the following show (by Massive Attack) and left the Main Stage area when
the last song ended.I left my VCR at home recording 4 hours of channel "Multishow" and I got
less then 10 minutes of interesting material:1) A quick interview with Florian, which he said was something he never did
before for T.V. (?) He answered most of the questions with yes, no and
maybe, but that's a good start. When the interviewer asked him which songs
they were gonna play, he said "all of them". He was definitely trying to
behave "like a robot" - even the Globo TV interviewer noticed that. She
surely had a hard time trying to dig something from him.2) Half of T.E.E. (from the moment just before the power failure on) as
well as Abzug and Metal on Metal.But wait, there's more! After the concert Stefan dropped me at the airport,
where I would have to wait 12 hours for my flight. I though It was going to
be a long, long night... and it was. However, at around 11 PM today,
something wonderful happened: I was taking a walk at the shopping area of
the airport when I noticed THEM right ahead of me! I was shocked, trying to
coordinate my thoughts. I picked the first piece of paper I could find
(which happened to be the cover of my flight ticket) and a pen and
approached them asking for an autograph. Each one of them looked at me
seriously and signed my ticket cover. Ralph made an observation about it
and I replied "that's the only piece of paper I got". I thanked them, said
"Congratulations on your work" and walked away to never see them again.
Hutter and Hilpert were the only ones to smile in the end. Considering the
size of the Rio de Janeiro International Airport, I consider myself *very*
lucky to run into them like I did.They were going to Sao Paulo, of course, where they will perform tonight. I
expect to record more material on channel Multishow of Globo TV network-
hey folks in Europe, please keep your fingers crossed for us in South

Subject: (kw) KRAFTWERK at FREE JAZZHi my friends !!
I saw KRAFTWERK playing at Free Jazz Festival (Main Stage (MAM) Rio de
Janeiro).The concert is fantastic !! I will send more details later...
However, one thing I tell to all: at TEE the KRAFTWERK made mistake !!
The music stoped(5/6 minutes) and starting again... Well, the robots do not perfects ...

Olá Nicolau,
Descrever um show do Kraftwerk com palavras é quase impossível, mas
vou tentar transformar em palavras o que senti na inesquecível
apresentação do Rio.
Cheguei ao MAM com aproximadamente uma hora e meia de antecedência,
estava com minha noiva e um amigo meu, tambem fanático do Kraftwerk,
ficamos sentindo o "clima" do lugar, eu e meu amigo estava-mos com uma
camiseta do Kraftwerk, tambem vimos várias pessoas com camisetas do
Kraftwerk, foi muito legal !! O clima era descontraído, muitas luzes
coloridas, as pessoas conversavam,..., enfim um clima de grande show...
Entramos para o Main Stage, lá dentro estava o palco do KW, atrás de
uma cortina negra, as pessoas começam a se posicionar em frente ao
palco, já tem no ar um clima de expectativa muito grande.
De repente, ainda com as cortinas fechadas, uma voz robotizada é ouvida
o show começa...(Ansage)
As cortinas se abrem lá estão eles KW !! Parece um sonho..., o visual do
palco é impressionante, eficientes telões de alta definição dão um show a parte.
A primeira música Numbers começa, o público vibra, no telão desfila
1, 2, 3, 4 ....o público canta junto, bate palmas kw está na nossa
frente...seque-se Computer World demais escutar ao vivo Interpol and
Deutshce Bank FBI und Scotland Yard... o público vibra e canta junto...
o Main Stage treme com os sons graves vindos dos altos falantes, vem
então uma breve pausa, o público bate palmas frenéticamente, perfeito !!
após a pausa It's more fun to compute !! o público delira... é demais !!
o arranjo está um pouco diferente, é ao vivo !! Lá está o Florian firme
mandando ver !! quase não se mexe, está concentrado, já o Ralf se
mexe ao ritmo da música, a cabeça dele balança no ritimo da música....
nova breve pausa, ouve-se uma voz robotizada The Man Machine Machine
Machine....vem então aquela batida característica da música, que vai
crecendo devagar até que começam os sons graves tremendo tudo, ao
inicio da batida grave o público delira..., nova breve pausa, começa
Tour de France com uma melodia suave, a música vai crescendo aos poucos,
um rapaz ao meu lado manda eles detonarem de vez, o som cresce começa
Tour de France, nos telões bicicletas desfilam sincronizadamente com
a música, é a homenagem do KW a famosa competição francesa...o público
canta junto Tour de France, Tour de France, a música é minimalista,
é demais !!, a música termina, o público aplaude..., nova breve pausa,
um barulho de porta fechando é ouvido, é Autobahn, três gerações estão
lá no Main Stage e gritam Autobahn !!!!, parece que a música foi criada
ontem uma melodia muito atual !!!, o público ouve aquela "velha" melodia
nos telões uma viajem pelas autoestradas alemãs a bordo de um Volkswagem
foi uma versão mais reduzida, encurtaram-na um pouco, novo breve
silêncio, o público aplaude, começa então The Model, que sucesso !!,
The Model é demais, a sua letra, a sua melodia, tudo muito bonito,
a música termina o público aplaude, breve silêncio ouve-se então um
pequeno trecho de Airwaves, bem diferente da original, então emenda-se
direto a nova música que ao que parece se chama Tango, o público
Techno presente vibra, é uma música bem "Dance", a música termina, o
público aplaude, breve pausa, ouve-se então uma voz sintetizada falando
dos perigos da energia atômica, e dos acidentes já ocorridos o trecho
ao que parece se chama Sellafield 2, porem parece que ocorre uma falha
e o trecho é repetido mais uma vez, eles esperam terminar a repetição
para então começarem Radioactivity, eles anteciparam muita coisa
quando em 1975 lançaram esta música, pois é esta música tem 23 anos e
está mais atual do que nunca !!, enquanto rola a música nos telões vão
aparecendo sincronizadamente com a música os nomes de usinas nucleares
em que já aconteceram graves acidentes, a música termina o público
aplaude mais uma vez frenéticamente, nova breve pausa, segue-se então
TEE, nos telões uma viajem de trem, e trilhos passando velozmente,
acontece então uma pequena falha, o som cai repentinamente,
Fritz Hilpert olha para trás em direção aos equipamentos, e em seguida
olha para Ralf, porem eles não se abalam, o público a principio pensa
que tudo faz parte do show, porem ao ver-se o video com calma vemos que
ocorreu realmente uma pequena falha, falha que em hipótese alguma
compromete a música, muito pelo contrário dá até mesmo, um charme
especial a ela, parece aquele selo que por causa de seu defeito se
torna valioso !!, a música termina, o público aplaude, nova breve pausa,
começa então Pocket Calculator, eles avançam em direção ao público com
seus pequenos "brinquedinhos" eletrônicos, parece tudo uma grande farra,
uma festa, muito legal !, nova breve pausa, fecham-se as cortinas, ao
abrirem-se o palco está vazio, nos telões The Robots, começa a música,
o público vibra...a música continua rolando até que sente-se uma
transição ainda é The Robots, porem agora os telões são levantados e
surgem os robôs, que mexem-se para um lado e para o outro, a música
agora está com uma batida mais forte, mais Techno, fim da música o
público vibra, aplaudindo bastante, nova breve pausa, fecham-se
novamente as cortinas, o público bate os pés no chão, treme tudo, ao
abrirem-se novamente nos deparamos com os integrantes do grupo vestidos
numa roupa que imita uma Wireframe do tipo que tem na capa do Eletric
Cafe, o visual e demais, público em extase total, demais, demais !!!,
a música parece que se chama Tribal Gathering, Techno Total, e
finalmente aquela música que queria, mais não queira escutar, Music Non
Stop, não queria escutar porque sabia que ia ser a última do show,
a medida que a música vai sendo executada, os integrantes do grupo
vão saindo, o primeiro é o Florian, depois sai o Fritz Hilpert, depois
é a vez de Henning Schmitz, ficando então sozinho no palco o Ralf
"mandando ver", até que finalmente ele tambem sai de cena, rola então
o encerramento da música, sem ninguem no palco, a música termina e as
cortinas se fecham, acabou parece um sonho...
A essa altura já estou rouco, suado, cansado, satisfeito, triste,
feliz,.... sei lá juntou tudo !!! Kraftwerk tinha tocado pela primeira
vez no Brasil e eu estava lá, 30 anos depois....Será que um dia eles voltam ???
Quem foi mesmo a outra atração da noite ??
